Brief Description

Shalom Arts team curates this project with the title“Light of Life”, invites six artists to create artworks, installing in the eight floors of the ER building. We hope through these artworks, the patient and visitors can improve their insight to this world and learn how to perceive art.

Cindy Ng Sio Ieng’s Psalm of Life I seeks to uplift the spirit of the viewer through the fluid vivid colors, the slow speed and music, and the subtle changes in the colorants of the video installation. Her another work Psalm of Life II is three oval-shaped giclée prints colored with pink-blue hues as the background, permeated with translucent golden yellow with light purple highlights, like the ocean current. The colors of the artwork can heal the mind and the spirit of patients and their families. Daybreak depicts the glimmering light penetrating through the hospital space like the morning sun, bringing strength and hope to the patients and hospital staff. In her artwork entitled Sea of Tranquility, there is a magnificent and steep mountain, waves like layers of salt and snow, and a beautifully colored sky. The artwork seeks to calm the patient’s worries and anxiety through the contemplation of nature.

Deng Hui-Fen’s ceramic artwork entitled City of Hope depicts a splendid and rich city in an impressionist style that can be viewed from multiple angles. This art piece is meant to accompany patients and their families in order to positively and proactively embrace health. Her another work Light of Life uses a natural color palette to create leaf-shaped porcelain plates. The size of the green leaves vary from large to small, growing like a wave getting larger and larger. In the same essence, we hope that the artwork will bring patients and their families promising hope that never gives up. Silhouette of Life is composed of many rectangular ceramic plates of different sizes with exteriors that look like picture frames; a collection of various snapshots which capture the happiness in life. It also serves as a metaphor that life may fluctuate with ups and downs, but memories remain forever.

Yu Teng-Chuan’s Carefree Sparrows is a small sculpture. The birds perch with their heads raised with hope; free, unfettered, and enjoying themselves. They beckon you to search for their traces together, taking delight in the vitality of the surrounding overflowing plant life and the healing power brought out by the beauty of art.

Tseng Shih-Yen’s Cells are comfortably shaped faux leather sofa seats in earthy tones. It creates an overall natural atmosphere in which family and relatives can freely stretch their arms and take a deep breath, resting in the “organic cells” seats and returning to a peaceful and calm heart.

Lu Ming-Te’s painting Landscape of Life illustrates the mountains and rivers, plants, grass and flowers arranging loosely at ease in the landscape, just like the different phases of life. The entire painting as a whole is rich and complete, just like how the scenery of life is pleasant and full of vitality.
